RITES FOR G. NEUENSCHWANDER, 94

Gottfred Neuenschwander, a farmer in this community for many years, passed away Friday in McCook, Nebraska, at the advanced age of 94 years.

Last rites were conducted Monday afternoon at the Holyoke Methodist Church, with Rev. J. Hubert Wubben officiating. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. Arrangements were in charge of the Lewis Funeral home.

Born in Bern, Switzerland, on June 27, 1865, Mr. Neuenschwander came to the United States in 1885, settling at Monroe, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage with Jennie Linder in 1891. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive. Mrs. Neuenschwander preceded her husband in death in 1932.

Mr. Neuenschwander was originally a cheesemaker by trade, engaging in this occupation in Switzerland and later in Wisconsin. The family moved to Sutton, Nebraska in 1903 and he became a farmer.

In 1918, Mr. Neuenschwander and his family moved to the farm southeast of Holyoke which is now the home of Edwin Neuenschwander. He was a charter member of the Odd Fellow lodge of Sutton, Nebraska, and was a member of the German Congregational Church.

Like most other pioneer farmers, Mr. Neuenschwander was an independent man. He enjoyed farming and also gained much enjoyment from music and reading.

He enjoyed good health and retained mental acuteness until only a few weeks before his death.

Surviving Mr. Neuenschwander are one son, Edwin, of Holyoke; three daughters, Mrs. Elydia Mann, Grand Junction, and Mrs. Ida Krieger and Mrs. Lula Ryan, McCook, Nebraska; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Among those who were here for the funeral were: Mrs. Phillip Bennett and son, David, and Mrs. Virginia Eccles, Los Angeles, California; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vecchiarelli and son, Denver; Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Krieger, Mrs. Lula Ryan and Loren Marvel, McCook, Nebraska; Mrs. Elydia Mann and son, Les, Grand Junction; Henry Maser, Loveland; Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Yost, Decorah, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Linder, Roy Linder, Mrs. Frieda Steiger and Mr. and Mrs. Gail Steiger, Sutton, Nebraska, and Charles Linder, York, Nebraska.
