CANTERBURY - Thelma (Atwood) Dow, 97, a longtime resident of Misery Road, died Thursday at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia following a period of failing health.
She was born in Bridgewater on Aug. 18, 1911, a daughter of Everet and Ina (Wiser) Atwood. She worked for many years at the former Mica Shop and Hudson Door in Franklin. She later worked at JJ Newberry's in Franklin and then as a chambermaid. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and baby-sitting.
She was predeceased by a brother, three sisters and her husband, Frank H. Dow, who died in 1961.
Her family includes her son, Francis Dow of Canterbury; daughters Marian and husband, James Lucas, of Northfield, Shirley and husband, Roland Brown, of Tennessee, Aletha and husband, Raymond Trottier, of Franklin, Dale and husband, Donald Hall, of Loudon; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held for her family at Village Cemetery in New Hampton at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home in Tilton.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association; or to the Arthritis Foundation.
