Ernie was born in Freeborn County on Sept. 10, 1918, the son of Hans and Olga (Jakobsen) Christianson. He attended school in Freeborn. As a young man he left the family farm to work as a well driller and plumber. He later served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he attained the rank of corporal in the Signal Corp. He returned from the service and began plumbing, establishing Christianson Plumbing and Heating in 1949, where he still remained active. He was a Master Plumber. In addition to plumbing, Ernie built many homes in the area. Ernie was married to June E. Wolkerstorfer on Dec. 19, 1953 in St. Paul.
In his early years he taught Sunday School and served on the church council at the Hartland Lutheran Church. He later joined the Assemblies of God Church in Albert Lea. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Ernie was an avid sports fan, especially baseball. He also enjoyed reading, his favorite book was the Bible. His faith in Jesus Christ was the most important thing in his life. He had a kind and loving heart and strived to uplift those around him. Patience as one of his greatest virtues. His family was of utmost importance to him. His grandchildren were his life. Ernie loved people and took pride in the fact that his customers were his friends.
Ernie is survived by his wife, son and his family of Albert Lea; 3 brothers and 2 sisters and many other relatives.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Olga Christianson; step-mother, Celia Johnson; brothers, Ralph, Ray and Oscar Christianson; and sister, Evelyn Hintz.
