My Great Aunt

Mrs. Marion Boring Howell, 88, known as Maw-Maw to most, of Cartersville, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at her residence of natural causes surrounded by her family. A native of Bartow County, born August 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Carl Boring and the late Robbie Grace Vowell Boring.

Marion was of the Christian Faith and was a homemaker. She grew up in Betty's Drive Thru diner, a gaming hall, shooting gallery and barbeque diner. She left home with Harold "Little Boy" Howell in 1942 to raise eight children and live a life long adventure filled with boating, fishing and beach combing for lures along the shores of Lake Allatoona. She was always searching for the best barbeque that would compare to the family secret.

Survivors include her husband of seventy years, Harold "Little Boy" Howell; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Joan Howell of Mableton, Randy and Patsy Howell, Joe and Patty Howell and Mike and Connie Howell all of Cartersville; her daughters and sons-in-law, Frankie and Wayne Allen of Emerson, Jennifer and Ray Starnes, Brenda and Harvey Free and Joyce Howell Massey all of Cartersville; nineteen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Ledford of Lithonia and a large extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Center Baptist Church with Reverend Dwayne McCreary officiating. Interment will follow in Old Macedonia Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Howell, Chad Cole, Brandon Howell, Micah Mein, Scott Allen and Chris Allen. Grandsons will service as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m., Tuesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville.

The family would like to extend a special word of thanks to Tapestry Hospice, especially Sherry, Udy, and Michael for their kindness, support and comfort to Mrs. Howell and her family. Also a special thank you is extended to the Chaplains at Tapestry Hospice for their contributions in her final days.
