James Mitchell McCarter, 64, died Wednesday at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was a native of Lee County, a rural mail carrier and a member of Good News Church. He was a veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McGrath-Rasberry Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Pumphrey and the Rev. Monroe Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bernice McCarter of Tupelo; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Freda) Farmer of Vicksburg and Mrs. Jack (Martha) Sallis of Spartanburg, S.C.; one sister, Ms. Margaret McCarter of New Orleans, La.; four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Ryan, Larry Blasingame, Roy Duncan, John Mathis, Mike Iverson and James Vernon.
