When Hannah Jane Reese was born on January 6, 1876, in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales, her father, Richard, and her mother, Mary Jones, were both 28. She married Andrew Pearson on June 29, 1891. A devoted mother, she and Andrew had ten children in 20 years. She instilled in her children a love of singing and of story telling. She died on August 8, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the age of 70, and was buried in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
