Dr. John Kaster
Long time resident of Hillsborough

A well-loved and respected pediatrician for generations of patients, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 12th at age 93. John was born on June 15th, 1918, in Minneapolis, MN and died at Peninsula Hospital.

He was surrounded by much love from close family members at the time of his death. He is survived by his beloved wife Jean, his two beautiful daughters Kathy (Barry McCabe) and Cindy (Nick Trowbridge) and 6 grandchildren Kamila, Leila and Muhammad McCabe, Logan, Tessa and Tyler Trowbridge and nine great grandchildren.

John was a Captain in the Medical Corps during World War II and met his darling Jean Goldsmith towards the end of the war. They were married and celebrated seven decades of happy life together. In his professional life, John was mentored by the famous Dr. Benjamin Spock. In 1960, John ran for Congress on the same Democratic ticket as John F. Kennedy, who supported him and was much impressed by the quiet, steady and honest doctor he met.

John led a full and varied life. In his spare time he designed kids furniture, wrote & produced musicals, and ran in numerous Bay to Breakers. He and his wife Jean led active lives through healthy eating and daily exercise, and were long-time members of the Peninsula Golf and Country Club where they were often found dancing the night away.

John will be profoundly missed by his family and his friends, may God bless him and give him peace.

Services will be held at 2:45 pm on Friday 1/20/12 at Skylawn Funeral Home, Hwy 92 at Route 35. Go to www.skylawn.com for further information.
