He was jury of the Prince of Asturias Awards, the National Prize of Spanish Letters, the National Literature Award, the Awards of Letters, the Cervantes Prize, the Critics Award, the European Literary Prize and the Prize Reina Sofia and others. He was critical in the newspapers ABC and El Pais, and wrote numerous articles in various journals in criticism and history of Spanish literature and prefaces to works of Francisco Ayala, Azorin, Baroja, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Ruben Dario, Alfonso Grosso, Francisco threshold, Miguel de Unamuno and Christa Wolf.
