Geneva Powell Meadows Wright, 99, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Royal Oaks Healthcare, 3500 Maple Avenue, Terre Haute, fulfilling her wish to go home to be with God.

She was born June 12, 1912 in Owen County, Coal City, IN to Walter A. Powell and Arabelle Fiscus Powell. She graduated from Jefferson Township High School in Coal City in 1930, the last surviving member of her class. Geneva married John (Fred) Meadows in 1936 – Fred passed away in 1979. At the age of 85, she and Paul R. Wright married in 1997. Paul died tragically in an auto accident in 1999.

Geneva worked in the medical office of Dr. McIntosh in Riley, IN for many years and later sold insurance for American Family Insurance Co., retiring in 1983.

Geneva is survived by nieces Gloria Silcox and Joan Seithel of Charleston, S.C., Margaret Ann Weust and Mary Catherine Rassel of Terre Haute; nephews Norman Dunigan and Dwight Dunigan of Spencer, IN; also special friends Carole and Bill Turner who have looked after her needs for several years.

Geneva was a loving and supportive member of the Eastside Church of Christ at Fruitridge and College Avenues in Terre Haute where she attended faithfully until health no longer permitted. Even then she continued to keep up on what was going on "in the Body". She was a good friend to many and had many, many friends and family who came to visit her home on Kings Court and sit on her special porch to eat and watch the birds. Geneva loved to travel, had a great sense of humor (often with an infectious giggle), loved the banjo music her husband Fred played and going to barbershop shows (even traveling to England with the Turners to see the BOW group perform in 1989).

Geneva was preceded in death by husbands Fred Meadows and Paul Wright, both parents and brother William Bryan Powell, sisters Ethel Auten, Grace Duningan and Fern Seithel.
