Alexander "Alec" Block, 87, of Orr died Monday, July 21, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born at Buyck, Minn., on June 4, 1910, and grew up there.

He was employed at Block Sawmill and drove a school bus for many years. In 1941, he moved to Alaska. Alec married Anna Soboleske in 1943. He operated a cabinet ship with his brother, making fixtures for businesses and the Catholic church. He was employed by the Alaska Highway Department. In 1990, he married Edna Arvilla Handberg, and they moved to Orr.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church of Orr, serving as a council member. He was active in the Orr Senior Citizens Club.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Anna, in 1989.

Interment was in Forest Home Cemetery in Buyck.
