Henderson

Mrs. M. J. Weaver arrived here from Sault Ste. Marie on Friday, Mar. 30, called here by the death of her aunt, Miss Elizabeth Dobson. She will remain for some time. Mr. Weaver will join her soon after navigation opens.

-----------

Miss Elizabeth Dobson was born into the higher life Tuesday night, Mar. 27. While sitting at the tea table she had a shock and in a few hours passed peacefully away. She was born May 5, 1825, being 74 years, 10 months and 22 days of age at the time of her leaving us. All her life was passed here in Henderson, where she was known, loved and respected by all. In early life she gave up all thought of a home and fireside of her own to care for her aged parents, and well did she do her duty by them. Quiet, unassuming, always ready to do what her hands found to do, it seemed there was always a place for her to fill. Although she missed having the domestic ties, she was a mother in the truest sense of the word to her niece, Mrs. M.J. Weaver, who morns her with all a daughter's devotion. Others there were – young men- who felt her motherly care and influence. Kind hearted, sympathetic, intelligent, tactful, full of that charity which always saw extenuating circumstances, "None knew her but to love her, none named her but to praise ." She has left a vacant place that cannot be filled.

She leaves, beside Mrs. Weaver, two sisters, Mrs. Fanny Spencer, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Cephas Montague of this place, a niece, Mrs Payson Thompson and several nephews.

The funeral was held at the Universalist church, Saturday, March 331. Rev. L. B. Fisher, of Canton, assisted by Rev. George Adams, officiating. There was a large attendance of sincere mourners and the floral tributes were beautiful. Mr. Fisher's remarks were very touching and comforting. She was buried in the Carpenter cemetery.
