OCEANA — Lawrence D. Brown, 75, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born April 10, 1936, in Glen Fork, W.Va., he was the son of the late Willie Dee Brown (1911-1981) and Ruby Garnet Fleming-Brown (1913-1998).

Lawrence was a 1956 graduate of Glen Rogers High School. He retired from Eastern Coal Company, after spending twenty nine years at Kopperston #2 mines, he was a member of Local Union 7604. He attended Oceana United Methodist Church, was an avid fisherman and hunter, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. He also really enjoyed camping in Pocahontas County. He was a loving husband and father and a Poppy to grand dogs, Jose, Chico and Maddie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Merrill Brown, and an infant sister.

Those left to cherish Lawrence's memory are his loving wife, Sherry Brown; his daughter, Natalie Brown-Drake and husband, Arvin, of Oceana; and brothers, Tommy Brown and wife, Sharon, of Oceana and Clarence O. Brown and wife, Suk, of Rockledge, Fla.

A celebration of Lawrence's life be held at Evans Memorial Chapel, Friday, January 27, 2012, 1 p.m., with Pastor Melissa White officiating, Johnny Maynard assisting. Interment will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 26th, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
