Mother Gibbs, affectionately known as Momma Til, spent time living in the states of Washington and Oregon. In the early 1940s she relocated to the city of Fresno, CA. Her formal education was limited, but she demonstrated extraordinary wisdom and understanding. Most of her life she worked diligently as a domestic are provider.

Soon after her arrival in Fresno, she united with the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L.C. Garrett. She was an active member of her church and served faithfully in the Sunday School Department as a teacher, as a choir member, and in the Mission Circles, due to her humble and serving spirit. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star.

She leaves to cherish her memory one brother, LeAndrew Smith of Tracy, CA; two daughters, Lillie B. Smith and Ruby D. Pinson, both of Fresno, California; one god-daughter, Mama Betty J. Lewis of Fresno, California; 30 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great and great-great-great grandchildren.
