Margaret Evans Dent was born 7 December 1763 in Loudoun County, Virginia. She was the only daughter of Colonel John Evans, who is considered one of the earliest and foremost founders of the area.

Margaret Dent had twelve children, four daughters and eight sons. Ten of those children were born at the Dent home. She died at the age of 87 on 23 November 1851.

A lengthy obituary appeared in the "Monongalia Mirror" on 29 November 1851 recounting several "spirit-stirring incidents" in her life.

The marker in Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown, WV is a cenotaph.

Margaret and her husband, Capt. John Dent, were originally interred in The Old Zoar Cemetery by the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Laurel Point, Monongalia, WV [Grave recorded by the WPA in 1937]. That cemetery no longer exists and their gravestones now lay side by side in the Granville Cemetery, Granville, Monongalia, WV where it appears they were re-interred and is their final resting place. [see memorial # 223681988]
