Maria de Jesus Rivera Romero died January 2, 2012, at the age of 74. She was born in Las Cruces, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Baleriano and Luz Quintana Rivera. In 1961, she met the love of her life, Joe V. Romero, in Midland, TX. They were married 50 years ago, on July 1, 1962. She committed her life to the Lord and was baptized April 8, 1973, in El Paso, by Pastor Manuel Zurita. She, along with her husband as pastor, served the Church of God 7th Day, in Midland, for 32 years. She was the cornerstone of the women's ministry, as well as many other ministerial positions. She loved tending to her garden and her love for cooking was used not only to express her love to her family, but also to serve hundreds of people at youth camps, retreats, and church functions. However, one of her greatest accomplishments came in 2011, when she was sworn in as an American citizen.

She is survived by one brother, Blas Rivera; and six children: Leticia Mancha and husband, Ray Mancha of Midland, Joe Cruz Iglesias and wife, Delma Iglesias of Midland, Ishmael Romero and wife, Michelle Romero of Midland, Cecilia Baker and husband, Geoffrey Baker of Jung, Victoria, Australia, Rose Romero and Emilio Guerrero of Midland, and Isabel Hernandez and husband, Benny Hernandez of San Antonio. In addition she leaves behind 16 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
