CHARLA DOHERTY, FORMER SOAP-OPERA ACTRESS, DIES: - June 1, 1988

LOS ANGELES - Charla Doherty, a television actress who played Eddie Haskell's girlfriend on ''Leave it to Beaver,'' has died, a family friend said Monday. She was 41.

Doherty, who was a featured actress in numerous episodic television programs in the mid-1960s, probably was best known for her role as Julie on the soap opera ''Days of Our Lives.''

She died Sunday of natural causes at her Woodland Hills home, said Michael Druxman, a close family friend. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirmed Doherty had died, but the cause of death was not announced.

Doherty began her career as a film ingenue, playing Jimmy Stewart's youngest daughter in the 1964 20th Century Fox film, ''Take Her, She's Mine.'' She also had a lead role in the 1965 science-fiction cult film, ''Village of the Giants.''

Doherty held roles in various TV shows, playing the girlfriend of Eddie Haskell, Wally Cleaver's best friend in ''Leave It to Beaver,'' and was featured on ''The Donna Reed Show'' and ''Wagon Train,'' among others.

In late-1980s, Doherty was involved in charity work and was co-author and director of the annual Juan de Anza Pageant in Malibu.

She is survived by a son, Trevor Black, and her mother. Funeral services were pending.
