Mrs. Oliver was born in Mecklenburg County, Feb. 11, 1917 to the late Robert and Rosa Walker Burton.
She attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, and was a member of Silone Baptist Church. Mrs. Oliver was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Oliver; two sons, Fred Oliver and Junious Burton and one daughter, Gladys Burton and five sisters and brothers.
Cherishing her memories are four children, Cora Thornton (Walter) of Hillside, N.J., Jesse Oliver of Newark, N.J., Robert E. Oliver (Diana) of Chesapeake, and Melvin C. Goode (Ernita) of Fayetteville, N.C., eight grandchildren; three sisters, Willetta Hamilton (Walter) and Maggie Tate all of Sun City, Ariz., and Roberta Mitchell of Washington, DC; four brothers, Floyd Burton, Saxe, David Burton (Charlotte) and Daniel Burton all of Drakes Branch, and Albert Burton (Elizabeth) Chase City, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
A funeral will be held Saturday, January 28, at noon at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, with burial following in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until service time.
