Janie was born in Las Animas, Colorado, to the late Tony J. and Maria (Meraz) Torrez. In 1960 she graduated from Las Animas High School. Following her relocation to Dallas in 1966, she worked as an optician for World Optical and later, Optical Mart. She retired in 2009 and moved to Morgan from Dallas. A very active person, Janie enjoyed cross stitch, crafts, reading, traveling, fishing,and camping. She also collected elephants and delighted in watching hummingbirds. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro.
Preceding her in death a brother, Manuel R. Torrez.
She is survived by her husband, Margarito Vallejo, of Morgan; daughter Theresa T. Aquire, of Morgan; brothers, Raymond J. Torrez, of Lilly, Pennsylvania, and Louis E. Torrez, of Las Animas, Colorado; sister, Antonia Torrez, also of Las Animas; and many other family members and friends.
