Alfred Dahlkoetter - October 15, 2010

Alfred Dahlkoetter was born on June 17, 1918 at Arlington, Neb. He was the youngest of 12 children born to William and Lizzie Stork Dahlkoetter. He was baptized as an infant at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Arlington. The family moved to a farmstead north of Grant, Neb. when Alfred was five years old. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran on May 8, 1932. He attended elementary school at Trinity and one year of high school at Perkins County High School before he began helping with the farm full-time. Alfred was married to Irene Ahlmeyer on Sept. 19, 1943. In addition to his farming, Alfred was a carpenter and he was part of the construction crews that built the Holiday and Ramada Inns in Ogallala, Neb. He also worked at the Grant sale barn and was involved with the Tharp's Machinery Sale for many years. They lived on the farm until 1999 when they moved to Westview Retirement in Grant in 1999. Alfred continued to live at Westview after Irene died in 2001 until 2006 when he moved to Park Ridge Assisted Living. He had been failing in health and had been moved to Golden Ours Convalescent Home in August of this year where he died on Friday night, Oct.15, 2010. He had reached the age of 92.Alfred was always involved in the Trinity Lutheran community. He served on the Trinity School Board and was the financial secretary of the church for many years. He enjoyed bowling on the Trinity team at Ogallala. He also enjoyed a good game of cards.
In addition to his parents and wife, Alfred was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 6 sisters, and 1 great-grandson.
He is survived by three daughters, Sandra and husband Arthur Nelson of Camas, Wash., Carlene and husband Bill Potts of rural Grant, and Valerie and husband Rick Hoefer of Petersburg Neb.; three sons, Roger and wife Marilyn of Roscoe, Neb., Dennis and wife Cindy and Earl and wife Deb, all of rural Grant; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Beth Dahlkoetter in California and Marie Dahlkoetter of Grant; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Oct. 19, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Wayne Pick officiating.
Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
