Born the youngest of eight children to Alexander Alestock and Anna Butler, both of Virginia. Had five brothers; Walter, Frank, Thomas Alexander, Willie and Solomon, and two sisters; Eleanora Rennick and Hannah Simpson.

Mattie married Lorenzo Lawson of Highland Co., Ohio in Columbus on December 20, 1899. They had four children; Milford Lorenzo, Walter Eugene, Robert Chesterfield and Helen Jeanette Ferguson.

Mattie J. Lawson, 78 N. 21st-St, died January 9th. She is survived by daughter, Helen Ferguson Carpenter; sons, Robert and Walter Lawson; brother, S. P. Alestock; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several cousins and host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., in the CHAPEL OF MRS. D. A. WHITTAKER AND SONS. Rev. Melvin Jacobs officiating. Family will receive friends in the chapel Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m.
