Mary Jane Wiley Brazell, 100, resident of 2906 Greer Highway, formerly of Greenwood, widow of Douglas David Brazell, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Hope Health & Rehab.

Born in McCormick, October 11, 1911, she was a daughter of the late William and Sallie Jane Young Wiley. A 1928 graduate of John De La Howe School where her father was the caretaker, Mrs. Brazell later moved several times with her husband during his military career. After her husband's retirement they lived in Sullivan's Island until his death in 1967. She returned to Greenwood to be with family until she was unable to continue to live alone. She moved to be closer to her daughter nearly ten years ago.

Mrs. Brazell was formerly lunch room manager at Northside Middle School until her retirement in 1976. One of her favorite pastimes was square dancing and she was a former member of the Merry Mixers Dance Club with whom she danced with well into her 80's. She loved to garden, bowl and especially loved traveling.

A member of Woodfields Baptist Church, Mrs. Brazell had been formerly been an active leader in the church.

The eldest and last surviving member of her immediate family she was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and David Wiley; and sisters, Helen Griffith and Estelle Holmes.

Survivors include her only daughter, Janice B. Hoch of Greenville; granddaughter, Liesel Schwab and husband, Robert of Greer; grandson, Major Timothy Hoch and wife, Holly of Clarksville, TN; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 2:30 PM at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Reverend Bob Kelley and Dr. Robert M Miller officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday immediately following the service at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Woodfields Baptist Church, 1715 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646.
