Aramintha (Barnard) Twichell was from Wilmington, Vermont. She was married to Francis Twichell, Jr, about 1850. They resided in Petersham. Circa 1858,they moved to Templeton, where they owned the Templeton Hotel and later the Lisha French Tavern. They adopted Francis' niece, Hattie Twichell, whose parents had both died. Hattie trained as one of the first kindergarten teachers and helped open a training institute in Springfield for Kindergarten teachers.
