OBITUARY:

The death of John Wagner, Sr., a highly respected resident of Genesee Township, occurred very suddenly at 10 o’clock Saturday evening in his home four miles northwest of Coleta.

Mr. Wagner had retired for the night and had been in bed about an hour when he complained of being ill and got up to sit in a chair. A physician was called, but before he arrived, Mr. Wagner had fallen from his chair and was dead.

For the past two months Mr. Wagner had been ailing, but Saturday he seemed to be in his usual state of health. Had he lived until May 5, he would have reached the age of 65 years.

Funeral services are to be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock in the Genesee Lutheran Church, two miles west of Coleta, conducted by the pastor, Rev. P.C. Boysen. Burial will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

The deceased was born in Germany and at the age of two years came to the United States with his parents, John and Elizabeth Wagner. They settled on a farm in Carroll County and later located on a farm in Whiteside County. He was united in marriage to Mary Schreiner, Feb. 19 1889. They lived for more than 30 years on the farm where Mr. Wagner died. He was a devoted member of the Genesee Lutheran Church.

Besides his widow, Mr. Wagner is survived by seven children, four sons and three daughters, as follows: William, at home; Mrs. Pearl Mertz, of Milledgeville; John, Jr., residing on a farm near the home place; Harvey, of Chadwick; Mrs. Rosie Eastabrook, of Milledgeville; Floyd, at home; and Mrs. Cora Fellows, of Round Grove. He also leaves one brother, Henry Wagner, of near Coleta. Besides his family he leaves a large number of friends who will be saddened by his passing.
