The sad intelligence was received here Wednesday, by his family, that Mr. Elijah Bourne had died Tuesday night at the Asylum in Lexington, where he was taken last August , on account of derangement of the mind. The deceased was born and reared in this county, being 66 years old, and was one of Jessamine's well-known farmers. He leaves five children, Louis, William, Kitty, Mary and Sarah Bourne; two brothers and one sister, John Bourne, of this county and James Bourne, who lives somewhere in North Carolina, and Mrs. Sallie Gibbs, of Columbus, S.C.; also three half-sisters, Mrs. Maggie Farra and Mrs. Nannie Rutherford, of Jessamine, and Mrs. David Myers, of Richmond. The funeral services took place at the grave yesterday morning at Maple Grove cemetery, conducted by Rev. Rutherford Douglas. (5-13-1898 issue of The Jessamine Journal)
