An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on February 7, 1929 for Mrs. John Kelly, states that she had died at her home on South Fifth Street, Friday, February 1st. Mary Miller was born April 22, 1851, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Miller, and she had spent her entire life in Shelbyville. On December 18, 1867 she was united in marriage to John S. Kelly, a Civil War veteran. He had preceded her in death. To this union six children were born, three of whom had preceded Mrs. Kelly in death. The surviving children were: Mrs. Ione Myers, Wm. W. Kelly and Roy L. Kelly, all of Shelbyville. Also there were two sisters, Mrs. L. A. Helton of Shelbyville, Mrs. Elizabeth Bentz of Decatur and one brother, Thomas Miller of Shelbyville, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kelly and her husband were members of the Unitarian Church of Shelbyville. Funeral services were held at the home, Rev. Daniel Sands of the Unitarian Church, officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
