Marion Franklin Ash, 92, of Newton, died December 12, 2008, at Newton Rest Haven in Newton, IL.

Marion was born on December 31, 1915, in Noble, the son of Franklin and Eva Runyon Ash. He married Amelia LaVern Ray on December 25, 1939 and she preceded him in death March 10, 1987.

He was a retired teacher. He was a grade school teacher for 35 years, teaching Sailor Springs and at Muddy School in Jasper County. He also served as principal of area schools. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Newton, IL, Retired Teachers Association and Royal Neighbors.

Marion is survived by his daughter, Alita Brooks; three grandchildren, Aundrea Gail Brooks, Carrie Lee Hite, and Steven Israel; and great-grandchildren, Riley and rory Hite and Michael and David Israel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Alma Israel; and three sisters.

Private family services were held with Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton in charge.
