ALVARADO - Elmer Edward Girdwood, 87, a retired Mrs Baird's Bakeries department manager, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at a Keene nursing home.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Elmer Edward Girdwood was born May 5, 1909, in Garden City. He worked for Mrs. Baird's Bakeries for 42 years, retiring in 1974.

Mr. Girdwood was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alvarado and was a former member of Carter Park United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a lifetime endowed member of Alvarado Masonic Lodge 314 AF&AM. He was past master of the Cooke Peavy Lodge 1162 AF&AM. He was a member of Chapter and Council and was a certified lifetime instructor of Masonry. Mr. Girdwood was awarded the Golden Trowel by Alvarado Lodge 314.

Survivors: Wife of 67 years, Onieta Margaret Girdwood of Keene, formerly of Alvarado; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Gattis of Alvarado; granddaughters, Carla Jo Peikoff, Lana Kay Campbell and Lori Skjong-Nilsen; and six great-grandchildren.
