Bonnie Joyce Bennett, age 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, in Oak View. She was born August 18, 1927 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Theodore Lloyd and Leona Mae Smith Karcher. Bonnie married Thomas LeRoy Bennett on March 9, 1951 in Ventura. Bonnie has lived most of her life in Ventura County since coming here with her family at age 13 from Oklahoma. Once married, she and Tom lived in multiple locations in Ventura and eventually moved to Meiners Oaks where they raised their daughters, Connie and Christine. As a homemaker, Bonnie followed Tom with their family to Newbury Park and then to Goleta. Years after Tom's passing in 1984, she united with her daughter's father-in-law, Ronald Aikens, and moved to Oak View where they resided happily for the last eleven plus years. Bonnie enjoyed gardening, has an array of lovely collectible dolls and was talented in fashion design and water colors. Two of her most prized paintings are of her granddaughter, Rachel, and granddaughter-in-law, Jessica, in their wedding gowns. She also enjoyed having birds and dogs as family pets. She enjoyed having her family around her, especially having them within walking distance and visiting often. Most of all, she enjoyed the loving care and attention of Ron in her later years. She is survived by her companion, Ron Aikens, daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Brian Aikens, of Oak View; daughter, Christine Bennett of Oceanside; sister, Doris Seeley of Ventura; grandchildren, Rachel (Alex) Burke of Santa Maria, Ryan (Jessica) Aikens of Woodland Hills, and her one great-grandchild, Aidan Burke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Leona, and husband, Thomas Bennett. Family and friends are invited to a viewing 3p.m. until 5 p.m., Sunday, September 12, 2010 and the memorial service 11 a.m. on Monday September 13, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Interment will follow at Ivy Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura. Condolences may be left at www.TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
