Alma was born in Jamestown, CA on August 4, 1914. Her parents, Giuseppe and Costanza Franco, had settled in Jamestown after emigrating from Italy. Alma grew up in Jamestown, CA and graduated from Sonora High School in 1932. As a teenager, she worked as a waitress to help the family, and as a young woman she did clerical work. She played softball on the same team as two of her sisters and thoroughly enjoyed that sport. She married Robert Montanelli of Chico, CA in 1946. Alma and Robert (Bob) lived in Pleasant Hill, CA for many years while Bob was employed by Contra Costa County. When Bob retired in 1972, they moved to Chico to live on Bob's family almond ranch. Bob passed away in 1973 and Alma continued to live in Chico the rest of her life.

Alma was a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West in Jamestown, CA. In both Pleasant Hill and Chico, Alma was active in a bowling league. She was a volunteer for Chico Community Hospital for many years, logging over 2500 hours of volunteer services. She also enjoyed bridge and visiting with her family, mostly in Sonora, CA.

Alma is survived by her niece and husband, Carolyn and Roger McGinty of Sequim, WA; her nephew and wife, Robert and Marianne Morse of Eureka, CA; her grandniece, Anna Morse; her nephew and wife, Ernest and MaryEllen Carboni of Sacramento; her grandniece, Robin Carboni of Sacramento; her nephew and wife, Larry and Cindy Franco of Westlake Village, CA; her grandniece and husband, Phronsie and Matt Weirauch of Manhattan Beach, CA; her grandnephew and wife, Matt and Bevin Franco of Simi Valley, CA; her great-grandnephew, Nate Franco of Simi Valley, CA; her great-grandnephew, Sammy Franco of Simi Valley; her grandnephew, Luke Franco of Santa Monica, CA; her nephew, Rick Franco and partner, Lindi Farmer of Modesto; her grandniece, Sarah Franco of San Diego; her great-grandnephew, Chase Messersmith of San Diego; her grandnephew and wife, Jacob and Amy Franco of London, England; her great-grandniece, Mia Franco of London, England, and her cousin, Emilia Barlocco of Murialdo, Italy.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Montanelli; her parents, Giuseppe and Costanza Franco; her brother, Duilio "Pete" Franco, and sisters, Celia Carboni, Julia Sierra, Josephine Bailey, Eva Morse, and Lena Franco; her nephew, Patrick Joseph Morse; her niece, Marilyn Jean Carboni, and her cousin, Tilio Chiapelli.

Alma spent the last years of her life at the Country House and later the Country Commons, both in Chico, where she lead a happy and comfortable retirement. She was always cheerful and easy going and was liked by all who knew her. She rarely missed a social activity there, and thoroughly enjoyed the company of a resident cat and all the dogs that visited, almost as much as she enjoyed visits from her family. Alma was an avid baseball fan and cheered for her favorite team, the San Francisco Giants.
