Malinda has long been a mystery Sprinkle woman, who was discussed and analyzed in detail on the once-active Rootsweb's Sprinkle Mailing List.
We believe Malinda is the daughter of Jacob Sprinkle & Mary ("Polly") Sheltman.
Her four oldest surviving children have the Sprinkle surname. And their various marriage records and death records give their father's name as unknown.
On the 1840 census, she is enumerated as head of household as Berlinda Sprinkle in Lee Co., VA. She is enumerated in the household next to that of her sister, Lucinda, who married James Green.
By 1850, Malinda is enumerated as Malinda Fugate in the household headed by Elias Fugate. We can find no marriage record for them.
On the 1860 & 1880 censuses, Malinda is also with Elias Fugate.
Malinda's Sprinkle-surnamed children are: George W.; Rebecca (Fugate); James; & Elizabeth (Wilhite, Hopkins, Fugate).
It appears that Malinda & Elias Fugate had one child: Virginia Catherine (Martin).
Malinda's year of birth is an estimate. We do not know when or where she died, only that she was living in Lee Co., VA in 1880.
