Lena (Godfrey) Coleman was born to Mrs. Eunice (Samilton) Godfrey and the late Mr. Layton Godfrey in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana on April 8, 1920.

Lena accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age, was baptized and united with Morning Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Pointer.

She attended Hester Heath Elementary School and Lillie Prescott Elementary School in Bayou Chicot. She continued her education graduating from Oakdale High School in Oakdale, Louisiana.

Lena moved to Richmond, California in 1941 where she resided for a short time and moved to Vallejo, California. She later relocated to Fresno, California and united wit Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Reuben Scott.

Lena met and married Mr. Eddie Coleman in 1968. There were no children born to this union.

Lena enjoyed working for the Lord. There were no tasks too large or small that she would not do. She taught Sunday school, worked on the Finance and Pastor's Aide Committee, and she collected food and clothing for the needy.

Lena worked at Red Star Laundry as a monogrammer in Fresno. After retirement she later moved to Dunnigan, California to care for her mother. Lena had fellowshipped with Second Baptist Church of Woodland, California.

As her mother's health and her health began to fail, she was unable to attend regularly. She would rise early in the morning to read, pray and study the Word of God.

On October 24, 2001 Lena embarked upon new shores, one many of us can only anticipate with great expectation. With a smile and great peace, she joyfully met Jesus face to face. In Heaven she is greeted by her father, Mr. Layton Godfrey, her brother, Mr. John Calvin Godfrey, nephews, Donley Thompson, David Dunn, Kerry Reeves and Eduardo Mason; nieces, Yvonne Godfrey and Sharon Godfrey.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving, devoted husband, Mr. Eddie Coleman, her loving mother, Mother Eunice (Godfrey) Tillman; two sisters, Mrs. Leana Poe, all of Dunnigan, CA and Mrs. Vivian Dunn of Richmond, CA; five nephews, Tony Albert, Wayne Oliver, Gabriel Godfrey, Daryl Mason and Donald Clark, of California; three nieces, Cheryl Robinson of Friday, MN, Matti Mason and Carliss Tholmer, all of California; her godson, Joseph W. Heath of Oakley, CA and goddaughter, Doris Austin, of Fresno, CA.

We love you, but God loves you best!
