Service held on Monday, July 28, 2003 at 11:00 a.m., Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 207 East San Joaquin, Fresno, CA; Rev. Robert Houston, Officiant.

Mollie Riley was born to the union of Lee and Gussie Shelmon James on February 15, 1918 in Colquitt, Louisiana. She was the youngest of six children. All of her siblings preceded her in death.

Mollie attended school and received her early religious training in Colquitt, Louisiana.

In 1934 she met and married Booker T. Martin. From this union was born two children, one son, Willie (William) Martin, who preceded his mother in death and one daughter, Esther Martin. She later met and married Jimmy R. Riley, who preceded her in death. They settled in Richmond, CA before finally relocating to Fresno, CA in 1946.

Sis. Riley united with Mr. Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. L.C. Garrett. She served faithfully as an active choir member, as a member of the Trustee Board, Men and Women's Christian Society, and as President of the Mother's Board.

She was a long-time active member of Rising Star Chapter #5, Order of Eastern Stars, where she held the positions of Worthy Matron, Conductress and Esther. She was also a member of Council #6.

Mollie Riley was loved by all who knew her. She loved gardening and fishing. She didn't care if she caught any fish as long as her hook was in the water. She also loved Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish previous memories: Children, Esther M. Carr-Davis of Fresno, CA and Billy Risey and wife, Betty, of Richmond, CA; grandchildren, Arthur Martin, Charlotte Bell, Franklin Ray Brown, Bobbi Eileen Smith, Lisa Nicholas and Chauntel Martin; 11 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren, special friends, Sis. Juanita Eddings, and Sis. Castleberry; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, church family and friends.
