Village Mourns Former Mayor
Funeral services were held at 9:30 am Wednesday at the Church of the Visitation, Minneapolis for Frank Adelmann, 4312 Bryant, second mayor of Richfield who died Sunday at the age of 80.
The Adelmanns were among the first settlers in this area, coming here from Germany. Born in Richfield in 1879, Frank Adelmann attended public school across the street from the family home at 70th and 24th Ave.
On completing the eighth grade, he engaged in farming until he reached the age of 27. At that time, in 1906, he bought a general store, the Richfield Merchandising Co., located just north of the present location of the Adams Doggie Shop at 63rd and Lyndale. After 20 years of merchandising, Adelmann returned to farming.
In 1917 and 1918, he served as constable of Richfield, and in 1919 became its second mayor with a total of 25 votes. He also served as senior councilman for 12 years.
In 1907, Adelmann was married to Anna Hausler of Bloomington, who survives. Other survivors are seven children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The couple retired 12 years ago, and have resided at the Bryant Ave. address for the past four years. The Richfield council Monday night, on motion of councilman Charles Wallick, voted to send a letter of sympathy to the Adelmann family.
