Leslie Loren Jones was born on August 24, 1893, in Lemon Township, Wyoming County, PA, and grew up in Wyoming County. He was the 7th of 12 children born to Benjamin Vincent Fitch Jones and his first wife, Mary Jane (aka Jennie May) Berfield Jones.
On January 21 1916, Leslie joined the USMC, and served during WWI, spending at least part of his enlistment as a Private, stationed at Marine Barracks, Navy Yard Boston, and on detachment to Radio Station Highland Light, in Cape Cod, Mass.
He met and married Irish born Mary Ruth O'Sullivan while he was in MA, and over the next 18 years, they had at least nine children, including :
