MATUKAITIS, Robert F. Robert F. Matukaitis, 71, of Newington, the beloved husband of Rita (Canestrino) Matukaitis, passed away on March 8, 2010, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born in West Hartford and had resided in Newington for over 50 years. Robert was a hard-worker and retired from the Newington Children's Hospital after over 35 years of employment. He was a kind and gentle man who loved animals, the outdoors and cooking. Robert loved playing softball and was a proud member of "The Green Machine." In addition to his loving wife, Rita, Robert leaves his daughter. Christina Lapierre and her husband, Paul, of Berlin; and his two grandsons, Jacob and Chase Lapierre. He leaves his brothers, Tony and the late Diane Matukaitis, Albert and Hazel Matukaitis, and Joseph and Debbie Matukaitis; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer Matukaitis. The family would like to give a special thank you to Nurse Tina at Newington Healthcare Center for all her patience and care she gave to Bob. Bob's Funeral service has been scheduled for 7 p.m., on Friday, March 12, at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, CT. Relatives and friends are invited to call immediately prior to the service from 5-7, on Friday. Burial will be private.
