Valerie Clontz Mathes, age 97, of Candler, NC was born in Haywood County, North Carolina on Nov. 6, 1914 and passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at her residence.
A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Riley and Eva Henson Clontz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy R. Mathes, who died in 1992; and several brothers and sisters, Maebell Burnette, Ardell Cook, Floye Pope, Hilliard Clontz, Elsie Johnson, Eldon Clontz, Eston Clontz, Roy Clontz, and Ruby Burnette. Valerie was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
