BELFRY - Alfred Hergenrider was born on June 25, 1924, and passed away on Oct. 18, 2008, at the age of 84 at his home in Belfry. He was the eighth of nine children born to David and Sophia Hergenrider. Alfred attended school in Belfry, worked on the family farm and entered the military in 1944. Alfred served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Makin Island in the South Pacific. He married MayBelle Strobel on Aug. 9, 1943. They are the parents of six children.
