He is survived by his wife, Rita Holmes of Florien, his daughters, Jane Askew of Nederland, Texas, Sammie Glover and husband, Mark of Nederland and Jill Scales and husband, Gary of Trinidad, Colorado, his son, John Holmes of Florien, his sisters, Johnnie Sheffield of Port Neches and Lillian Morgan of Nederland and his grandchildren, Jacob Askew, John Askew, Mabry Glover and Sarah Scales.
Funeral services will be on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 1pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas.
Burial to follow at Farr's Chapel Cemetery in Newton County.
