Margot Riley, affectionately known to family and friends as 'Mote', is at peace with the Lord after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and related complications.
A devoted mother to her eight children, Margot was a lifelong resident of Douglas and a graduate of Douglas High School. Everyone knew Margot as the cheerful clerk who accepted their water bill payments at the City Water Department each month. After her retirement she was a volunteer at both St. Luke's and Immaculate Conception churches and an regular participant in the activities in the Vela Perpetua.
Margot was truly blessed with many friends, neighbors and family members, all of whom she valued greatly throughout her life.
Margot loved animals and never passed up an opportunity to give a sad stray dog or cat a good home. Margot will be remembered for her sense of humor and willingness to help others. When she realized that she was in the early stages of Alzheimer's, she volunteered to participate in a research program at University Medical Center.
Margot was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores C. Soto, who was lovingly called "Mama Lola." Also preceding her in death were her husband, C. L. (Larry) Riley, her son, Michael, her daughter, Margaret, her sisters and brothers in law; Dolores Johnston (Warren), Ofelia Hawkins (Cy) and Clementina Corres (Dr. Joaquin Corres). Margot was the granddaughter of Rodolfo Campodónico, composer best known for the theme of the 1910 Mexican Revolution, 'Club Verde.'
She is survived by six adult children, Claudia Mason (Allen), retired Judge Jim Riley, Kathy Riley-Nicholson (Jim), Timothy, Matthew and John. Margot is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also had a large extended family including cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life with a viewing on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 1:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. at Brown-Page Mortuary followed by a Rosary at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 7:00 P.M.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 2, 2012 also at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
A reception will be held following the services at the Douglas Noon Lions Club, 1501 9th St., Douglas, AZ."
