(Bio)Lt. Laughrey was a pilot who flew a single engine high wing artillery "spotter" aircraft in Italy during WW II. These planes were not armed, and radioed the enemy location to our artillery on the ground, who then directed fire on the German army position. Each plane had a pilot and a spotter on board. One of the major battles he flew over was the battle of Monte Casinno in May of 1944
