In 1841 John, aged 18 years, was counted in a census for Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, when he was a rulemaker apprentice living with another family on Strafford Street.
His father, Thomas Kinsey, died in 1838.
In 1841 his mother, Sarah (50), clothes dealer, was living fairly close by John, with her daughter Elizabeth (15).
And in 1851 she was still living on the same street.
On March 1847, John got married, aged 24, rulemaker by occupation, with Emma Gilmore, daughter of John Gilmore and Deborah Atkins, at Saint John's, Lambeth, Greater London, Surrey, England.
On June 12, 1849, John (25) arrived in New York from Liverpool, with pregnant wife (25) and their son John junior (born in 1847 in Birmingham) per the Ship Mortimer Livingston.
In 1850 they were residing in Kings County, New York and by 1870 they had already settled down in Marion County, Illinois.
We know John returned to England in 1879 to visit relatives thanks to a Carte De Visites sent by him, bearing the photographers name printed on the back
The couple had the following children: John junior, Sarah Frances, Emma Jane, Mary Ann, Thomas and Alice Marie Kinsey
His siblings were: Ann, Mary, Sarah, Jane, and Elizabeth Kinsey.
He died aged 78 and his grave is shared by his wife.
