MRS. ELIZABETH WIDMER
Mrs. Elizabeth Widmer, 96, died Thursday, November 6, 1975 at 6:45 a.m. at Parkview Home in Wayland, where she had been a resident since 1961.
Mrs. Widmer was born May 6, 1879 in Tingen, Germany, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine Rediger.
February 4, 1903, [sic, Feb. 14] she married Chris G. Widmer in Bourgfelden, Germany. She was baptized at the Basie, Switzerland Mennonite Church.
She had been a resident of the Wayland community since coming from Germany in 1903. She was a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.
Survivors include eight children: Mrs. Katie Roth, Henry Widmer and Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Wenger all of Wayland; Paul Widmer of Tucson, Arizona; Mrs. Freida Freyenberger of Wayland; Dr. Reuben Widmer of West Branch; Dr. Glen Widmer, of Wayland and Daniel of Albany, Oregon; 36 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren and one great great grandson and a sister Katherine Rediger of Bourgfelden, Germany.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1960 and a daughter Esther in 1971.
Rev. Orie L. Roth officiated at the funeral services which were held from the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, Saturday, November 8, 1975 at 11 a.m. Music was by a quartet Mrs. Aldine Meyer, Mrs. Aldine Roth, Dale Swartzendruber and LaVerne Blosser. Casket bearers were Phillip Widmer, Ted Widmer, Dave Widmer, John Wenger, Roger Roth, Ledru Freyenberger. Interment was in the Sugar Creek Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Beatty-Jennings Chapel of Wayland.
