Killed at Amsterdam
Sad death of George Hancock, a popular young man of this city

George Hancock, a well known young man about town, was run over and killed by a freight train on the West Short railroad at Amsterdam about 8 o'clock last night. Hancock was a brakeman on the train and it is supposed that he slipped and fell while jumping from one car to another. The body was brought to Syracuse this morning, and is now at McCarthy's morgue.
Mr. Hancock's family was at one time in good circumstances. His father owned the Hancock block in East Genesee street, beside another property of considerable value. The family was broken up, however, and the property gradually melted away until the son had little left. It is said that he would inherit about $1,000 on his twenty-first birthday, which would have been in next May. Young Hancock was well liked by those who knew him, and his death will be a sad surprise to many. The funeral arrangements have not as yet been made.
