Obituary: JOHN KIRKLAND, 86. John Kirkland, 86, died at his home in Wathena Saturday evening. He had been ill for the past few months.
Born Sept. 7, 1892, in St. Jo, Mr. Kirkland was a son of William and Joan Fawns Kirkland. He was a lifelong resident of Wathena and a retired farmer. Mr. Kirkland was a veteran of World War I where he served as a corporal in the field artillery of the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Veterans of World War I of the U.S.A., Atchison.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, of the home; five daughters, Ruth Grable, Erma Jones and Donna Weber, all of Wathena, Dorothy Roland, Creswell, Ore., and Helen Anno, St. Jo; two sons, John Kirkland, Savannah, Mo., and Donald Kirkland, Wathena; one sister, Elizabeth McNair, St. Jo, 11 grandchildren and one nephew.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon at Harman's Chapel in Wathena, Rev. Charles Vinzant officiated. Burial was in Bellemont cemetery, Wathena.
Pallbearers were William Krousa, Ronald Benitz, Darwin Critchfield, Howard Miller, Morris Miller and Richard Grable.
