Prussian Monarch. Only daughter of Sophie of Hanover and Elector Ernst August, sister of King George I. of England. She spoke fluent French, English and Italian. She married Elector Friedrich III. of Brandenburg on October 8, 1684. Friedrich became the first Prussian King in 1701. In August 1688 she gave birth to a son who became known as the "Soldier King" Friedrich Wilhelm I.. She, like her mother, had a close friendship with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. She often visited her mother in Hanover. During a visit there in January 1705 she became ill and died in Herrenhausen. The Castle Charlottenburg was named after her. Cause of Death: Pneumonia
