As a young man, George worked as a lumberjack. He eventually got a job with the Post Office in Stetsonville as a rural mail carrier. His hobbies were woodworking and fishing.
His parents were Ignatz Henry Platteter and Frances (Schneck) Platteter who also lived in Stetsonville.
George is the brother of Joseph Platteter, Edward Platteter, Frank Platteter, Anna Brecke, John George Platteter, Mary Meyers, Albert Joseph Platteter, and two infant brothers.
George and Amanda had six sons: Reuben George Platteter; Alvin Platteter; Herbert Joseph Platteter; Kenneth Edward Platteter; Merlin Andrew Platteter, and Wallace Platteter.
George and Amanda had eight grandchildren: Bruce Platteter, Roger Platteter, Dale Platteter, Mary Platteter, Thomas Platteter, William Platteter, Dennis Platteter and Barbara Truman.
After Amanda passed away, George moved from Stetsonville to Riverside, Iowa.

RIVERSIDE - George J. Platteter, 95, of Riverside, father of Rueben Platteter of Solon and Herbert Platteter of Iowa City, died Tuesday at the Atrium Village in Hills after a long illness.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Riverside, with Fr. Thomas Mohr officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Rosaries will be recited at 3 and 8 p.m. Thursday at the Sorden's Funeral Chapel in Riverside.
Mr. Platteter was born April 11, 1887, in Taylor County Wisconsin, a son of Ignatz and Frances Schneck Platteter. He married Amanda Stahnke, October 24, 1911, at Stratford, Wisconsin.
Survivors include three other sons, Alvin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Kenneth of Phoenix, and Merlin of Brookfield, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother Albert of Gordon, Wisconsin, and a sister Mary Meyers of Madison, Wisconsin.
