American Civil War Veteran
Erwin served as a Private with the 20 Michigan Infantry Company-F. He enlisted on August 6, 1862. He was wounded in action. On May 3, 1864 he was admitted to Chester
Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania probably from wounds received in action. He
returned to duty on January 20, 1865. He also served as a flag holder for the GRAND ARMY of the REPUBLIC. His discharge came on May 30, 1865.
