Explorer. Born in Altofts, England. He made several attempts to find the Northwest Passage to Cathay (1576-1578), reaching Labrador and Hudson Bay. Frobisher Bay is named after him. In 1585 he commanded a vessel in Drake's expedition to the West Indies, and in 1588 he was knighted for his services against the Armada. He was mortally wounded at the siege of Crozon, near Brest.
