Mr. Wegenka, a lifelong resident of St. Joseph, owned and operated Chem-America for 15 years, retiring in February of this year due to ill health.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359.
During the Korean War, he served with the Army.
In 1951, he married the former Darlene A. Kerner at St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Wegenka was preceded in death by a brother, Tony.
Additional survivors: four daughters, Lynn M. Iffland of Seattle, Wash., Lorie A. White and Lisa R. Lounsbury, both of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Leanne Anderson of St. Joseph; four sons, Gregory J. Jr. and Mark D., both of St. Joseph, Matthew E. of Springfield, Mo., and David T. of the home; five sisters, Elizabeth Slahorek of St. Joseph, Rose Watkins of Columbia, Mo., Genevieve O'Brien of Lamar, Mo., Mary Hilgert of Omaha, Neb., and Ann Sudo of Fife, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Prayer service: 6 p.m. Sunday at Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home.
