Walter B. Brash, son of Colin Brash and Margaret Dodds, was born July 3, 1842 in Linlithgow, Scotland. As a young man he traveled to Hartford, Connecticut, where he lived from 1869 to 1872. Walter was a joiner (carpenter) by trade. Upon returning to Scotland he married Mary Georgina Allan on Aug. 2, 1872. The couple moved to the Kelvin/Maryhill neighborhood of Glasgow at some point prior to 1879. Their five children, all born in Scotland, were:

Colin Crawford Brash (1881-1959);
James Henry Brash (1884-1967); and
John Gordon Brash (1892-1983).
In 1909, Walter returned to Hartford, along with his daughter, Georgina, and her husband, John Bryce. Walter's wife, Mary, and sons Andrew and John, followed in 1910. Sons James and Colin arrived in 1913 and 1922 respectively. The entire family settled in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford. The Brash family were members of the First Presbyterian Church on Capital Avenue. Walter died on March 26, 1924 at age 81.
